[ Paul Rolfe Architects ] Surrounded by a Beech forest, the concept for this hillside house is a black rectangular box with a steep roof form mirroring the groundline. As the ground falls down the hill, the roof slopes upwards to frame a sea view in the loft bedroom space. At this point you can stand in the full height window, five metres above the ground amongst the tree canopy. The corrugated iron provides an affordable solution for roof and wall cladding within a tight budget, painted black the sculpted form recedes into the shadows of forest.
