Dark Skies
[ Leopold Banchini & Giona Bierens de Haan ] ‘Dark Skies’ is a stage designed and built by Leopold Banchini and Giona Bierens de Haan. The concept is about democratising the experience, space and sound of a DJ set. Achieved by suspending 116 speakers and 58 subwoofers across one thousand square meters of timber trusses, facing the down toward the crowd. The two DJ booths alternate, with an equal sound experience across the dance floor to create a unique and non-linear club experience. In this way, sound becomes a tangible material within the architecture. I worked in a team with the architects to construct this stage for Horst Arts and Music Festival in Asiat Park, Belgium. Aiding in the construction of the roof trusses, reflecting panels, columns, and the wind bracing of this structure.
